Easy Artisan Style White Bread Recipe

Do you love new recipes?

Well, I had a sweet neighbor teach me how to make this simple Artisan-Style Bread last week, and we have been making it daily ever since!

It has an amazing crust!
So I thought I would share the recipe with you in case you love to try new recipes.
This recipe consists of only 4 ingredients...yes I said 4.
So are you ready?

Grandma's Bread
*this recipe can be doubled if needed
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 2 tsp salt (less is optional)
  • 1/4 tsp yeast  (must be Rapid Rise)
  • 1-1/2 cups water

Supplies needed:

  • 1 glass mixing bowl
  • Saran plastic wrap
  • Pam cooking spray
  • Crockpot or glass dish with glass lid (appropriate size for bread)
*Example of glass bakeware with lid needed

Now here comes the specifics that you have to follow exactly (so I have been told)   Mix in glass mixing bowl that is big enough for the dough to have room to rise in.

Pyrex Prepware 3-Piece Mixing Bowl Set, Clear

Yes it has to be glass, don't ask me why, I just follow it, as I don't want it not to work.

Add the first 3 ingredients and stir with a spoon.   Mix in water, and mix well.   You don't need a mixer, don't need your hands..just a spoon.

Now I told you it would be easy.

Now place plastic wrap over your bowl.
Saran Wrap, 100'

Let it sit & rise for 12 hours

Your dough should look something like this.
Now its time to stir it down.

Time to Repeat:   Place the plastic wrap back onto the pan, and let it sit for another 12 hours and stir down the bubbles again.   Which means your bread dough would have been rising for a total of 24 hours.

In glass bowl, spray with Pam and sprinkle with flour.

Pour bread dough into new floured bowl and cover bowl with a cloth.
Let it rise for an additional 2 hours.

While your dough is rising for the last 1/2 hour of the two hours, turn and heat your oven
to 475 degrees.

So while your oven is heating up, put your Glass Baking Dish and lid into the oven (I use my crockpot, see photo above).    After the oven and pan have heated up to 475, I let it stay in there for approximately 15 more minutes.     After the 15 minutes are up, you need to open your oven and either remove your pan (caution ..it will be extremely hot) or slide out your baking rack.

Next we are going to pour the dough into the hot pan and replace lid on pan.

Bake at 475 degrees for 1/2 hour.    After a 1/2 hour, take the lid off and bake another 6-10 minutes until crust is golden brown (or to your liking).

Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack.   Make sure to cool your pan and lid in the oven as it will be extremely hot.    Do not place in the sink as your dish might break.

Enjoy!
